Small, brown fungus growing on a stump. Maybe some kind of slime mold?
In a swampy, mixed forest.
Thanks for the tip Mark. You're right, it does look a lot like Hypoxylon. I'll have to look into that genus. Thanks for your help.
I think not slime mold as the fruiting bodies are all in mixed stages of development or decay. Slimes tend to develop in unison. Probably a fungus... and it reminds me of Hypoxylon genus.
