Trichopoda pennipes
The Tachinid Fly is a large stocky fly. This fascinating bug kills its prey by injecting juices that makes its food swell up like a balloon. Then they eat it and lay their eggs in the left over skin. Their favorite habitat is a big meadow or field. They live all over the U.S.A. Its scientific name is Trichopoda pennipes. They have a special part to their antenna called arista.
