Description:

This species is a common and widespread fly (including Papua) of the family Stratiomyidae, whose larvae are common detritivores in compost heaps.

Habitat:

Spotted in a large semi-urban yard/garden adjacent to a disturbed remnant patch of forest. There is a large compost heap present in the yard. This is in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.
