Panamanian Night Monkey - Jujuná

Aotus zonalis

Description:

It's kind of primate Aotidae family. Previously considered a subspecies of Aotus lemurinus, but now considered a separate species. It is one of the few monkeys monogamous. They usually have only one offspring per year, but occasionally have twins. Lives in small groups of two to six animals and are territorial. All members of the genus Aotus are the only nocturnal monkeys. They mainly eat fruit, but also nectar, flowers, leaves, buds and insects. When food is scarce can eat small birds and lizards.-------------------------------- Es una especie de primate de la familia Aotidae. Anteriormente se consideraba una subespecie del Aotus lemurinus, pero actualmente se considera una especie separada. Es uno de los pocos monos monógamos. Generalmente tienen una sola cría al año, aunque ocasionalmente tienen gemelos. Vive en grupos pequeños entre dos a seis animales y son territoriales. Todos los miembros del género Aotus son los únicos monos nocturnos. Comen principalmente frutas, pero también néctar, flores, hojas, rebrotes e insectos. Cuando escasea el alimento pueden comer pequeñas aves y lagartijas.

Habitat:

It is found from the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica to the Chocó region in Colombia. Inhabits mature forests and secondary forests, moist and wet up to 1,000 m., Disturbed forests, dry forests, forest plantations, coffee plantations and mangroves.------------------------------ Se encuentra desde las costas del Caribe de Costa Rica hasta la región Chocó en Colombia. Habita en bosques maduros y bosques secundarios, húmedos y muy húmedos hasta 1.000 m., bosques alterados, bosques secos, plantaciones forestales, cultivos de café y en manglares.
