A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Project Noah Nature School
Big mushroom, 20 cm diameter.
Oak forest.
Thank you staccyh for your help trying to ID this.
Luis, could this be a Sepia bolete? http://www.first-nature.com/fungi/boletu...
I might be waaay off! But I had go at it because I'm trying to learn how to ID mushrooms! Although looking at this link http://www.first-nature.com/fungi/sclero..., seems unlikely to be an earthball.
Thank you staccyh for the ID suggestion. No I didn't, it was attached pretty close to the ground and I didn't want to break it.
Maybe Scleroderma citrinum (common earthball) or perhaps Sarcodon scabrosus (bitter hedgehog)? Did you manage to look at the gills?
