Cephrenes augiades
The upper side of the hind wings of this small dart were predominantly black with bars of yellow in the discal area and a splash of yellow near the shoulder. The upper side of the fore wings had stronger yellow patterns but were less visible as it rested with the wings at at angle to the hind wings. Along the trailing margin of the hind wings were a single narrow band of yellow.
The underside of the wings was a uniform golden yellow.
Females are said to have a wing span of 40 mm and males, slightly lesser.
Spotted in a suburban garden
These butterflies are called darts because of the positions their wings assume when at rest. The caterpillars of these darts live on various species of palm leaves (Arecaceae)
Family: Hesperiidae
