I saw other pictures of American toads and they didn't look like it....

Is it, actually. You only have two toads in your area, American and Fowler's. American toads have a spotted chest, Fowler's only have a single spot. Yours has a spotted chest, making it an American toad.
And if that doesn't convince you, look at the connection between the paratoid glands and cranial crests. On a Fowler's toad, they would touch completely, and on an American toad they only touch by a thin cord. This toad only touches by a thin cord.

So why is it not an American toad?
