Killdeer

Charadrius vociferus

Habitat:

Lakeshore

Notes:

This familiar plover is a master of diversifying. It has a broad range of habitats including shores, urban areas, and even fields. I have had the chance to see a female conduct her “broken-wing” display for me. I was near her nest and she flew down in front of me and feigned injury to distract me from her nestlings.
