Osmoxylon

Osmoxylon masarangensis

Description:

Osmoxylon masarangensis is a rare plant endemic to the a narrow geographical area of Minahasa, and has no known local name. After centuries of silence in scientific reports, in 1996 we found 4 living plants in Mt. Masarang with no success to find the flowering plants. Up until now (2013) there has been only one other individual found in any other places. It was in Tatawiran forest, about 15 km north-west of Mt. Masarang. Captured at page 1 is a rare picture the fruit of Osmoxylon masarangensis. Masarang forest is still under a threat of illegal logging and land conversion.

Habitat:

Native forests. Near a creek.

Notes:

The four shoots were from four different individuals in the same vicinity.
