Simaethula sp
A very small matt gold jumping spider, about 10 mm long. Cephalothorax was broad and flat and the slightly spade shaped abdomen had deep depressions. The palps were white with dense setae. 4 shiny dark brown eyes stared back at me.
Spotted on a eucalyptus tree
This cute little spider reared up on its legs ( Pic1) as if to ward-off the offending camera ! I have never noticed this amusing and endearing behaviour before. The spider then turned its back to me and the depressions on the abdomen looked like eyes - they are points at which muscles are attached internally but are they meant to scare-off small predators ?

They look so innocent, with those big eyes...but I know there is a beast inside that tiny body...
Love his face!
