A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Manorina flavigula
Adults grow to just under 30cm, a predominantly grey bird, lighter belly, dark mask around face, beak, eye patch & side of throat, legs/feet, parts of wing and tail feathers are yellow coloured. A honeyeater, the miners also supplement their diet with insects. The call is a series of notes that become intense when territorial or when alerting each other and other species of nearby danger.
Widely distributed across Australia, but found in the more western and northern regions, differing from the Noisy Miner of the east coast. Inhabits a variety of environments including gardens. This one found near salt lake and dry river bed.
Looks like breakfast by the river was not so tasty afterall. This Yellow-throated Miner made a big deal out of catching a nice big breakfast only to gag quite a few times as it found the morsel quite distasteful and tried to rid it from its mouth.
