Prairie Rattlesnake

Crotalus viridis

Notes:

Found this little beauty warming himself in the middle of the road on a cold fall day. I was surprised to see him out at all, but with recent flood water finally subsiding I think it's possible he was making his way back to his territory after being displaced by the flood. We moved him off the road and out of harms way. He was not very appreciative! Hopefully he finds a nice safe place to hibernate.

Thank you all so much! I am truly honored! It's up to all of us who love animals to be their advocates and to educate others about them. People often fear what they don't understand. We can all educate those around us through our actions and our photographs! This snake didn't want to hurt me, he wanted to be left alone! I hope this snake finds a safe warm place to spend his winters...far far away from the road!
