American White Pelican

Description:

Large white pelican of the Americas. Tends to breed inland on lakes in North America, and there are roughly 60 known breeding colonies. Breeding adults show a large bump on the upper bill, a feathery crest and creamy beige breast

Habitat:

Manmade livestock pond in pasture

Notes:

Not sure how long they've been here, as my husband remarked that he had seen large white birds that he didn't think were egrets. If they've settled in for the summer, this will be a rare sighting: the nearest known breeding colony is NE about 3 hours drive
