Mating snails

Description:

I think you can spot the love dart jutting out of the snail on the right hand side. It was only a few years ago that the function of the love dart was discovered: this sharp dart is made of calcium carbonate and is coated in mucus that contains a cocktail of chemicals that have physiological and behavioural effects on the recipient snail. The end goal is to increase the chances of the dart shooter being the one to fertilise its mates eggs!

Habitat:

Spotted these two love-birds in a tryst atop some egg shells in one of my tomato plants!

Notes:

Not sure of the species.
