A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Corythaixoides concolor
Also known as Grey lourie, these are rather noisy bird, often seen in groups - that day I counted at least 11 of them, well hidden in this tree, few of them screaming loudly "Gooooo - gooo - gooo"... to which scream they owe the name... These are medium sized birds belonging to Musophagidae family (Turacos), about 50cm in length, all grey with lighter-grey heads, long tails and distinctive crest. And really loud - but it's lovely to hear them.
Seen in Kunene region of Namibia (northwest), around Sesfontein town, in large numbers - I would see at least one every day around town itself. The landscape around the this rural town is arid open acacia woodland. In general, it an arid region, but at the moment, following a three-year dry-spell, is very dry - but still magnificent and rich in wildlife, as it seems the wildlife suffered much less than domestic animals.
