Holly Blue - Azuré des nerpruns

Description:

The Holly Blue is a butterfly in the family Lycaenidae native to Eurasia and North America. The underwing is of a pale silver-blue, spotted with light black markings. In Europe, the first generation of this species feeds mainly on Holly (Ilex aquifolium).

Habitat:

Small bushes on meadow side; rural.

Notes:

This butterflies rarely opens its wings while resting.The species shows sexual dimorphism visible on the upperside: the male has a fine black border, while in the female this is very broad. These broad borders are visible in flight.
