Description:

Small butterfly of the Lycaenidae family. It is native to South Africa and it is a pest to cultivated Pelargonium and Geranium plant species. Ca. 20 mm. wingspan. The wings are brown/bronze with a white border outlining the wings. The underside is a grey-brown with darker bands interlaced with white, creating an intricate pattern. The hindwings contain an eye spot in order to divert predators from attacking

Spotted at s town park, Parque del Retiro, Madrid, during a butterfly counting by citizen volunteers to create a urban park catalog of butterflies uBMS (urban Butterfly Monitoring Schemes) http://ubms.creaf.cat/
