Sceloporus magister
This lizard has the ability to become darker in the winter to allow them to absorb heat from the sun, and become lighter during the summer to reflect the sun's radiation. The dark blotches or bands on the neck help with identification. Adults grow up to 5.5 inches from snout to vent (14 cm..) The tail is slightly longer than the snout-to-vent length.
Spotted sunning on a boulder in Madera Canyon, Arizona.
