Texas madrone

Arbutus xalapensis

I found several of these growing in a dry canyon in the Guadalupe Mountains. Most were about 15 ft tall. The reddish brown bark peels off in thin sheets. The leaves and edible red berries are seen in pic 2.

Spotted in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Elevation 6000 ft.
