Asclepias speciosa
Plant is typical milkweed leaves and stem but the flowers are so exceptionally beautiful! A round ball of spiky star flowers on an erect stem. Gorgeous! Milkweed usually attracts butterflies but I found none on these this trip.
Roadside habitat along the road to Blackwall Peak, Manning Park, BC, Canada. This is the first time I have seen this species in Manning Park, but it might be because it wasn't in bloom before. However it is not included in my book Plants of Coastal BC by Pojar and MacKinnon published in 1994, and so I think it might be a more recent introduction or expansion to this area.
I searched a couple times over that are hoping to find some butterflies on them but it was fairly cool yet with only a few species of butterfly on wing in the park. So maybe another time!?
