Yellow Glacier Lily

Erythronium grandiflorum

Description:

Delicate yellow lily about 5 - 8 inches tall which grow in masses over damp alpine meadows.

Habitat:

Subalpine meadows on Blackwall Peak, Manning Park, BC. Even though I was a week earlier this year than 2013, the Glacier lilies were almost all finished blooming this year. It has been a very hot July and I think the wildflowers on the mountains are ahead of their normal season.

Notes:

Pojar and MacKinnon says that the glacier lily corms were an important food of the indigenous people of the Interior Plateau of BC.
