Pycnonotus goiavier
The yellow-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier), or eastern yellow-vented bulbul, is a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds. It is a resident breeder in southeastern Asia from Indochina to the Philippines. It is found in a wide variety of open habitats but not the deep forest. It is one of the most common birds in cultivated areas. They appear to be nomadic and roam from place to place regularly. Wikipedia
This Pycnonotus goiavier made its nest in a pot plant in our front yard. I did not want to disturb the nest building and stayed away for a while, hoping to get a picture of the eggs in the nest, but I stayed away too long and missed the eggs. However I got one snapshot of the chicks when both parents were out collecting insects. I think I was lucky because there was usually one parent guarding while the other wasout hunting.
One afternoon, I saw a chance for a picture when the female (I think) landed at the top of the pot plant, and from my viewpoint, it was just in front of one of the carport lights. So I quickly snapped a photo and now, everyone who sees it makes the same comment. It looks like a Xmas card.
