Cicada nymph

Cyclochila australasiae

Description:

After 6 or 7 years underground many of these strange nymphs simultaneously emerged for their new phase of life. Tracking one specimen revealed a green grocer cicada emerging and stretching vibrant blue/green wings. This one is a male. By morning hundreds of these insects have emerged, dried their wings and continued climbing out of reach of curious hands and eyes for their familiar summer chorus.

Thanks Leuba. Many exuvia become transparent and brittle before they are discarded. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/173...

I like the colour coming through the skin before the final moult in pic 1 - another interesting spotting.
