Stag Beetle

Lucanus cervus

Description:

Appears from late May to beginning of August and is most active in the evening. Adults live only a few months and feed on nectar and tree sap. You can hear them fly because they make a low-putched buzzing sound.

Habitat:

Most are found near rotting wood, old trees, rotting fence posts. They live in old trees abd dead trunks in forests.

Notes:

I spotted most of them late in the afternoon
