Io Moth

Automeris io

Description:

The Io Moth is a medium-to-large silk moth with large, circular eyespots. The body is plump and furred, yellow in males, reddish brown in females.

Habitat:

Spotted at Tamarac near Pine Lake. They can be found in deciduous woodlands and gardens. Food: The caterpillar eats a variety of plants, including clover, roses, corn, maple, birch. Adults do not feed.

Notes:

Their range is thought the United States, especially the central and eastern states.
