Black Rat Snake

Elaphe obsoleta

Description:

Silver Grey with dark blotches on this juvenile. Adults are mostly dark with vague light areas. Adult can reach over 6 feet. They tend to be aggresive in defense, but after a time, with some handling, they tame down. The first two photos are of the snake in defensive posture.

Habitat:

Lives in buildings, forest and this particular snake was in my basement.

Notes:

I had a 6 footer for a pet and it was tame and would eat mice readily.
