Strix aluco
According to an ornithologist amateur who discovered this nest, these chicks are today (17th of May) 9 days old; they are grey and spend all of their time sleeping in this hole.
Found in woods, at some 4m of height, in an area of mixed use; plenty of agricultural fields, some wetlands and some protected woods, all located in Geneva lake valley, French side;
We did not see the mother, but we heard her couple of times yesterday; but not today.

Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
