Red-crested pochard

Netta rufina

Description:

Portrayed here is the eclipse male (and fifth photo is for reference only, it was spotted on another occasion...); when its nuptial and spectacular colors become drab, mainly various shades of brown, and the bird loses its 'coiffed' orange-headed look... So, the eclipse male is mainly brown bird, but still keeping its red eye and red bill.

Habitat:

Lake Leman, Geneva - rather urban setting.
