Xylobolus frustulatus
Ceramic Parchment is a saprobic fungus, which I spotted growing densely and gregariously on a rotting log in patches of adjacent frustules. The individual fruiting bodies were irregularly shaped, resupinate, and were approximately 3-5mm in size.
Growing on a rotting log in a mostly deciduous forest.

Congratulations Christine, your Ceramic Parchment is our Spotting of the Day:
"Lined up teeth, or broken ceramic pieces? You're in fact looking at the Ceramic Fungus or Ceramic Parchment (Xylobolus frustulatus), our Spotting of the Day. This crust fungus is cracked into small, irregularly shaped polygons. This species is saprobic (meaning it derives nutrients from dead or decaying organic matter), and can be found growing on well-decayed oak wood in Asia, northern Europe, and North America".
