Long-Jawed Spider

Description:

This is one scary spider. It is over 3cm in body length. The jaws are black and enormous. The legs are orange-red next to the body and brown by the end of the tarsi. The abdomen is rounded with a pattern of dark on light or light on dark. The first 4 photos are of one specimen, the last two photos are of a different specimen, which was feeding on some kind of prey. I see them hunting on their own and never with a web. I don't think I could keep my cool if I found it in my bed.

Habitat:

Out hunting at night, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
