I was thinking this was Polyporus squamosus. But it only grows on dead hardwood. A suggestion for next time, gill pictures. They make IDing easier :)

Nope. Growing right out of the ground! Semi-moist dirt/silt/gravel mix with decaying organic matter (mostly madrone and oak leaves, as well as pine needles).
