Spider, Golden silk orb-weaver

Nephila

Description:

Noted for the impressive webs, The striped legs are specialised for weaving and their tips point inward, rather than outward as is the case with many wandering spiders. Their contrast of dark brown/black and green/yellow allows warning and repelling of potential predators to whom their venom might be of little danger.

Habitat:

Spotted in Kaeng Krachan National Park at the side of the road. I saw several of these but this was the largest. I understand they can get a lot bigger!

Notes:

Photos #1 & #2 are the female. I believe #3 & #4 is the male.
