Common Scorpionfly, female

Panorpa sp.

Description:

Orange body with a long proboscis. Wings clear with black pattering. I found this female hanging in a strand of spider web. I set her loose and she let me get a photo of her! Wing patterning is helpful in determining species (will work on that later).

Habitat:

Meadow bordering temperate forest. Gardiner County Park, NY.

Very cool find! I want to see one this summer, and I don't know if "common" Scorpionfly is the most correct name haha
