According to "Birds of North America" the male has a black neck and the female has a whitish neck. This book also shows the common name as Anhinga. Many other countries use the common name of Darter, (eg: Oriental Darter, African Darter). Some countries have more than one common name for a species, only the scientific name will stay the same for the same species, although sometimes there will be a third scientific name for sub-species (for birds anyway).
If you know that your spotting is Male or Female by all means state it.
