Maginificent hummingbird (female)

Description:

Much less colorful than the males their pattern helps the female to disguise themselves while nesting. This species is also solitary and the females take care of making the nest and rear their young all alone. They use plant fibers, animal hairs and feather down to build the nest. They also use spider web and other sticky materials to reinforce the structure of the nest. They lay a clutch of 2-3 eggs and these hatch after 15-19 days of incubation. The female feeds regurgitated food to their chickc that includes insects to provide for enough protein.The chicks are left alone for progressively longer periods after their 12th day and leave the nest by their 20th.
