Madagascar Periwinkle

Description:

Madagascar Periwinkle is an evergreen, herbaceous, upright-to-spreading dicot angiosperm that reaches 1 meter high. The Madagascar Periwinkle's flowers possess a narrow tube with five petals. The color of the petals can be fuchsia or pink, white, or white having a reddish eye. The plant leaves are 2.5 to 9 centimeters long, 1 to 3.5 centimeters wide, green to yellowish-green, oblong to oval, glossy, and have a pale midrib. Moreover, the leaves have short petioles and are displayed in opposite pairs. This plant is frequently utilized as a home ornament due to the flowers' features and attractiveness (Flora Fauna Web, 2021).

Habitat:

Madagascar Periwinkle is native to Madagascar, an island located in the Southwestern Indian Ocean, hence, its name (Flora Fauna Web, 2021). However, many plant samples of Madagascar Periwinkle can be found in the Philippines. The image above is documented in Villa Cacacho, Mankilam, Tagum City, Davao del Norte, Southern Mindanao, Philippines. In the image, the plant is used as a home decoration wherein it is planted on a small pot, and the pot is hung on a window.

Notes:

The plant prefers to grow in areas having full or partial sunlight. Moreover, it can adapt to various soil types if the plant has good drainage (Flora Fauna Web, 2021).
