That makes even more sense! I had stopped by at China town in Oakland to buy raw peanuts. That is when I saw them perched on the lights and flying from tree to tree.I was very surprised to see a grey heron in the middle of town!!

It was at a 50's style burger joint near Lake Merit in Oakland. Probably less than a 1/4 mile from the water, but on the other side of the freeway. He sure didn't mind me taking his picture, seemed totally unconcerned

these are so people friendly in this part of Cal. It is unique to seee these in an urban settting!

I figured it was some kind of marsh bird like a heron by it's feet and beak, but I'd never seen on like this before
