Pedicularis canadensis
Purple-red clover-like flowers with whitish tips. Same color leaves, similar in shape to Yarrow leaves. Clumping habit, reaches about 6 inches in height.
Open fields, wooded edges. Sandy, well-drained soil.
Surprising find in an old agricultural field that is slowly succeeding back to shrub habitat. Asked town maintenance to avoid mowing the area where the plants were spotted.
