Blue Curls

Trichostema dichotomum

Description:

A small plant with 2 or 3 blue to purple 2-lipped flowers at the tips of short branches arising from the leaf axils. The long, curled stamens characterize this dainty little plant -- and it was this feature that caught my eye.

Habitat:

Native from Quebec to Georgia, west to Texas, and north to Minnesota. Spotted growing near the road on top of Kennesaw Mountain.

Notes:

The southern Perennial Bluecurls (T. suffrutescens), has tiny oblong leaves and may not be a distinct species. (This may actually be a specimen of T. suffrutescens - the leaves were very slender and small.)
