Bighorn sheep are named for their large, curled horns, which may weigh up to 30 pounds on the males. Males may weigh 300 pounds while females, called ewes, are considerably smaller.
There are a number of subspecies of bighorns. This particular animal is a Rocky Mountain bighorn Sheep. Habitat for the Rocky Mountain subspecies consists of steep, rough country and upland meadows.
This particular ram was tracking a ewe, although the rut was well over.
