Syrian Brown Bear

Ursus arctos syriacus

Description:

One of three beautiful girls at our local zoo, this is a Syrian brown bear. Syrians are one of the smaller subspecies, and probably my favorite bear because of Wotjek. Wotjek was a bear cub that was picked up by Polish Forces and actually enlisted in World War 2. Wotjek carried around munitions during The Battle of Monte Cassino. What a badass.

Habitat:

Native to the Middle East.
