Whooping Crane

Grus americana

Description:

Whooping cranes are tall, white birds. Standing about five feet tall, these gorgeous birds have a red patch on the head and a black "mustache."

Habitat:

Wetlands.

Notes:

These two birds are a part of the reintroduction effort to create a flock of cranes that migrate between the upper Midwest and Florida. Notice the transmitters on the legs.
