Burrowing Owl

Athene cunicularia

Description:

Small owl, no more than 40 cm tall. Big rounded and yellow eyes that almost occupy all the head. Dotted back in brown and white. Chest is barred with a clear area in the lower abdomen. I could be seen during all the day but they are more active at night.

Habitat:

Very common in Argentina specially in the central plains and open areas in the Patagonia. They dig a cave in sandy soils or occupy burrows built by other species. Ussualy living in groups
