Eastern Gray Squirrel

Sciurus carolinensis

Description:

Some squirrel bones near a tree. The post-cranial elements were all in one cluster with some limbs a few inches away, a bit behind the tree itself, while the jaw bones and atlas vertebra were about a foot away more directly under the tree, but spread around it in various places. No cranium was found. I assume it was eaten by a bird of prey in the tree, and the bits scattered around as they dropped to the ground.

Habitat:

Side of a road, under a tree and by some hedges.
