Red Deer

Cervus elaphus

Description:

These droppings are large, about 25-30mm long and approx 20 in diameter (for size, check against the crocus flower in pic N° 3), rounded and depressed on one end, slightly pointed on another. Blackish and shiny when fresh; becoming brownish and dull when older and dry (pic N°4). Heaps are quite large, droppings numerous.

Habitat:

Found few of these heaps in clearing of our montane mixed forest - I suppose a place of rest for these beautiful animals - located on higher slopes of Jura mountain range; Geneva lake valley.
