Long-Tailed Macaque

Macaca fascicularis

Description:

Long-tailed Macaques are the only wild primate life found in Tioman Island. Also known as the Crab-eating Macaque.

Habitat:

Rainforests, Mangroves, Seashore.

Notes:

Feeding Long-tailed Macaques is a big problem all over SE Asia. It makes them reliant on this easy source of food, and it leads to behavioural changes. The monkeys start harassing people for food, recognising the rustle of plastic bags, and acting aggressively. Raiding rubbish bins becomes another problem and they are often, unfortunately, seen as pests.
