Great Green Macaw

Ara ambiguus

Description:

They are listed as Endangered, the reasons are part due to deforestation and the capturing of wild birds for the pet trade industry. They are really really smart having the ability to mimic human speech like all macaws. The global population is estimate at 3700 individuals.

Habitat:

Found in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.

Notes:

The Great Green macaw and the Military macaw are very very very similar, so they are both my favorites of all macaws because I just can't differentiate haha. Photographed at the Barranquilla zoo.

"It is not a photograph. It seems that the Macaw is peeping from a open window. I salute it's reality. Congratulations to you, Carolina!"

I know how you feel, Carolina. It's tough getting my hopes whenever a really exceptional spotting is uploaded. Check out http://www.tineye.com. You can right-click on spotting's fullscreen photo, grab the image url, paste it into tineye and it will tell you if it's been found elsewhere on the web. We're hoping to make it clear in the future that all content has to be original. I hope your heart will mend :)

Wow, very red face! Are they like other macaws in that it turns that color when they're excited/angry, or is it just naturally pink?
