Bufflehead (Females)

Bucephala albeola

Description:

Female buffleheads (and 1 male, not pictured), diving for food in north Lake Washington at Juanita Bay Park. Spotted at dusk.

Habitat:

Fresh water lake in Pacific Northwest

Notes:

There was a male as well but he kept diving under so quickly it was difficult to get a picture of him with the dim lighting, and they were all keeping a healthy distance from the path at the shore (at least a few hundred feet). Got the girls he was hanging out with, though!
