False black widow spider

Steatoda sp.

Description:

Shiny black-brown spider without bright colored marking but otherwise looking and acting very much like a black widow.

Habitat:

In the house in a dark corner behind books.

Notes:

Black widows do not live in this area; this species seems to occupy that niche. This one had been preying on a flight of termites (good work!)
