White Asphodel

Asphodelus albus

Description:

These are part of the lily family. On average they were about 2 to 3 feet tall with leaves at the very bottom of the stem only. There were several stems to one plant. Each flower has 6 petals, with a slight pink tinge. The stamen seem quite long for the size of the flower.

Habitat:

These flowers were growing in short grass, on the side of the mountain.

Notes:

In Greek mythology it was said that `in the underworld, the last judgement on the souls of the dead were passed in meadows of these flowers`.

Tanner, thanks for your suggestion. I have been looking up the Milk Weed but they all seem to have leaves running down the stalk as well as flowers where as this one only had leaves at the bottom of the stem at ground level.
